Supposed to run this weekend, but it is looking pretty dismal.
Check back later, and please do a wave dance.

Well I am going to roll the dice on this one as it is our back up date and I really don't want to push yet another contest back into the fall. Plus I know you are all looking forward to heading to the site of the "Jersey Shore" for a day of fun. It looks like there should be some contestable surf so let's keep our fingers crossed.
The contest will be on the South Side of the Pier at Grant Ave. Please bear in mind that everyone will need to purchase a beach pass/badge for $5 to gain access to the beach. Also bring a little cash as you most likely will not be able to find a place to park without a meter. The good news is that there are quite a few kids out west for Nationals so we should be able to get off the beach relatively early.
As of right now, confirmed competitors for this event are as follows. If you are planning on coming to surf, please let me know by tomorrow so I can have the heats put together before I get to the beach and expedite the process.
Luke Kelly
Alison Bowman
Jill Kepich
James Reen
Jared Bono
Jessica Kwiecinski
Cassidy McClain
Selena Moberly
Sean Santiago
Ryan Santiago
Zach Greaser
Don't be alarmed by the short list of competitors, I know there will be more. With all of the confusion of canceling Long Beach and transferring entries and canceling entries, etc. I just want to let everyone know who is confirmed at this point, I am sure the list will grow by Sunday.
One final note. With all of the aforementioned confusion, I am going to again waive the Beach Entry fee. All divisions will be $30 dollars, but this is the last time I am going to do this, so please take note.
Thanks for all your support.

Yet another dismal surf forecast for this weekend. I am finding that this is the most difficult part of the job of being Director of the NE conference. The question is do we run or wait and hope? I will take another look tomorrow to see if anything has changed and make the final call by 3PM. There was a little bump today, rideable for sure. I have looked at the wind forecast and don't think that there will be much on tap for Sunday, but the schedule really can't afford another cancellation if there are no waves next week. I am going to do much contemplating and get back to you all by mid day tomorrow. I would rather not have people drive from all over for crap waves, it is just not fair. As a parent of a competitor, I know what it is like to invest lots of time and money and show up to see ripples lapping up against the sand.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for your patience.

I really hate to cancel this one, but I would rather wait it out and hope to get some really good surf in NY so please be patient.

Why in the world I would overlook Mother's Day when I was putting together the schedule for this year, I don't know. Subsequently, we will be running contest #2 on the back up date of May 16th. Entries are starting to trickle in, but I am really hoping we can get some numbers on the beach next week, so spread the word.
I can e-mail entry forms to anyone that needs one, just send me a message and I will get it out to you.

Let's make the first contest outside of NJ a good one.

This is not exactly how I want to start off as the new director of the Northeast Conference, but we have reached the backup date for contest #1 and I really have not choice but to run. It looks like there may be a slight bump in the swell with the increased southwest winds predicted, so hopefully we will get a little wave. Additionally, we have had our permit restrictions loosened a bit and will be able to run anywhere between 1st and 8th Streets in Ocean City.
I will be down there by 7:00 on Sunday to scout it out. It looks like the wind and swell will increase throughout the day, so we may have a little bit of a delayed start. However, as of right now the schedule is not that full so unless we get some beach entries, the day shouldn't be terribly long.
Please bear with me, I have no control over the waves. Hopefully over the course of the season we will get some better conditions, but this is the East Coast and after what we saw in Florida for the East Coast Championships and in Hatteras for USA Prime, you guys need to be ready to slug it out in small surf when you need to.
See you on the beach, and thanks for your patience, I know we are going to have a great season.

Just a quick reminder that there will be a beach entry fee charged if you do not get your entries to me by Thursday, April 29th. Given that we now have a two week window before the event, I want to get the heats together before I get to the beach on Sunday. Anyone that e-mailed me their divisions last week, will need to follow up with the physical entry form. I just want to be sure that I don't overlook anyone so please be sure to get me the hard copy of the form.
Additionally, make sure you go to www.nssa.org and sign up for the 2010-2011 Membership. The National Office went out of their way to get the new link up last week as they are adamant that you need to be a current member to surf in any of the Conference events.
Anyone that need an entry form can shoot me an e-mail.

Due to the fact that the wind is supposed to blow pretty hard out of the NW beginning on Saturday, the surf forecast does not look to promising. Therefore, I am going to push contest #1 back to the alternate date of 5/2.
Given that the contest is now two weeks away, I would like to start to get the entry forms in hand so I can start building heats. Also, make sure you head to the National Site and sign up for your annual membership. The 2010-2011 Membership link has been activated and is located on the upper right hand corner of the site. You will need to be a member to surf in the event.
***When you send in your entry form, please, please, please include a current any e-mail address or addresses for the person or persons responsible for getting you to the beach. I know that there are many of you that will be traveling to get to the contests, so I am going to create an e-mail database so I can send out updates directly to you when contests are on or off. Please feel free to list both the competitor and parent/guardian e-mails, the more the merrier. I will still be posting updates on here, on the NSSA Northeast Facebook Fan Page and via Twitter (@nssanortheast), but I want the e-mail list to be comprehensive in order to make sure you all have the most recent information.
Hopefully the waves will cooperate in a couple of weeks.
